Bowser had prepared the attack weapon and was all ready for the attack. The target: Mushroom Kingdom (well, what else did you expect?). After countless defeats, Bowser was antagonized for the last time; or so he thought.

"Chief technician! Is the missile ready to be launched?" Bowser asked the Koopa at the machine. "Well, we've had a few technical problems, and the machine could blow up if we turn it on, so I have to run more tests, and it might take a couple more days...I'm sorry, your majesty..." The Koopa answered, quivering. "No! I don't have a few more days! I have to destroy them NOW!!!" Bowser shouted. "They will come to take the princesses soon, and I'd rather my organs be inside me."

In another corner, Daisy and Peach were shouting in a hostage cell. "Oh, Bowser, now you've done it!" Peach growled. "Get me out of here right now! You hear! Right NOW!!!" Daisy yelled with rage. "Humph. I'm sure everyone else will come and rescue us very soon." Peach assured herself. "Well, my 'friend', I've personally made sure all of those goodie-goodies won't be visiting freely anytime soon." Bowser laughed. The princesses just stared coldly.

Yoshi had been on vacation now for several weeks on his home island, Cantalope Island. Yoshi was munching on a banana with all the other Yoshis. "Love that banana!" Orange Yoshi said. "Yum!" Bright Blue Yoshi replied. "I just don't get it. How come I'm the only Yoshi on the island with the Lucky Curse?" Black Yoshi asked himself. "Oh, come on, Blacky, if you try the lucky fruit of the day, maybe you'll like it!" Pink Yoshi assured. Pink Yoshi always tried to say something nice. "Yeah, right. The only thing I can eat is peppers." Black Yoshi sighed. Suddenly Yoshi (the green one is just known as Yoshi) spotted something shiny up in a palm tree. "Hey!" Yoshi said. Yoshi started climbing up the tree. When he reached the top, His eyes widened with surprise. "What is it, Yoshi?" Dark Blue Yoshi asked. "It's a....a red star!" Yoshi gasped. Yoshi put the star in his mouth and swallowed it. "I'll ask Daisy about it. She knows all about that stuff." Yoshi told himself.

Lakitu came flying in at that moment. "Yoshi! Bowser has launched a missile and captured all the citizens in Mushroom Kingdom, and Yoshi Isles is next!" Lakitu told Yoshi frantically.

The Yoshis were in a circle, planning what to do when the missile strikes. "There's nothing quite we can do until we're hit. Until then, we must build an underground fall-in shelter at each of our homes. Then we have somewhere to go." Yellow Yoshi suggested. "But what if stuff falls on the door and we can't get out?" Yoshi asked. "Well, black Yoshi eats yucky stuff and likes it, so he could stand outside and eat stuff that comes near us." Pink Yoshi suggested. "Uh..." Black Yoshi said. "Then it's settled. Does everyone know what to do?" Red Yoshi asked. "Yeah!"

Everyone shouted.

And so the construction was on.Every Yoshi dug a big hole, stocked up on fruit, and waited. But when the day finally came, it was the nightmare of Yoshi's life.

"What's that sound?" Red Yoshi asked as an object zoomed toward the island. "It sounds like...uh-oh!" Black Yoshi said. "Could it be?" Yellow Yoshi asked. As the object came closer, everyone ran to the shelter at Yellow Yoshi's place. The missile finally struck. Fruit, rocks, stars, and a lot more came flying toward Black Yoshi. Black Yoshi started gobbling. More and more garbage came flying toward Black Yoshi. "How's it going?" Dark blue Yoshi asked.

"I...can't...hold...it...much...longer...aaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!!" Black Yoshi went flying. All kinds of garbage came flying onto the shelter door. The door broke. "Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!" All the Yoshis screamed as they went flying towards Bowser's castle. "Oooof!" Yoshi belted as a thing hit him hard in the stomach. He landed with a "Thud!" on the ground. Yoshi saw something on the ground, half covered in dirt. It was what hit him. "What's this?" He asked himself. To his surprise, it was a dark blue star.

"This is bad, this is very bad." Yoshi told himself. "Bwahahahaha!" A voice said from inside the castle. "Nice try, Bowser. I'm not scared of you." Yoshi said, but inside, he was overcome with fear. "Humph. I gotta work on that voice tone. Anyway, I have captured all your friends and have drained their power and added it to my power. They are helpless now. I have control of you all now. You must overcome the castle dangers. I warn you 'friend', watch your step!" Bowser laughed.

"I can do it. I'm the Kingdom's only hope now. If I can't do it, nobody can." Yoshi reassured himself, then set off. But just before he could reach the walkway, Lakitu came zooming in. "Hello , Yoshi. I'll help you on your quest to free the others." Lakitu told Yoshi. "Your point?" Yoshi asked not-so-enthusiastically. "I've taken a look around, and Bowser's walkway up to the tower has four major sections: the Dungeon, the Control Room, the Power room, and the Tower. Watch out for Bowser's traps, some are not so suspicious as they look." Lakitu informed.

Yoshi looked below him. A pool of bubbling lava sat below. He looked ahead. Five planks lined the bridge ahead. "That's easy." Yoshi said to himself. Yoshi suddenly saw the planks start to move in and out of the wall quickly. "Uh-oh..." he said worrisomely. "Well, I can't flutter jump over there, it's too long, and I can't ride a shell over, I have none left..." Yoshi thought aloud. Lakitu dropped a giant star lift onto the ground. "Good idea, Lakitu!" Yoshi hopped onto the lift and glided smoothly to the other side. Ahead he saw the entrance to the Dungeon. "If you go to the Dungeon, you will head straight for the Tower. Inside the Tower is the Control Room and the Power Room. It would take shorter, but the traps are trickier. What are you going to do?" Lakitu asked. "I'm going for it." Yoshi was determined to get the glory out of this one. "Who knows?" Yoshi thought. "Maybe people will actually read this fanfic. Then maybe a nintendo executive will see how great I am someday and actually give me a GOOD game this time, not a rinky-dink, four level, wimpy boss game. Maybe someday they'll give me an adventure game, like Donkey Kong's 64 game."

"This is the dungeon?" Yoshi asked. He looked at a small room with three switches and three doors. "You must choose one and fight the person behind that door. Once all three doors are completed, you may move on." The Koopa guard standing in the hall told them. "Well, guess I better get started." Yoshi got his whacking fist ready.

"Hiya!" Yoshi whacked switch two. All three doors opened. Three Big Mr. I's came out. "Huh?" Yoshi gasped. "Man, gotta fix those switches." The guard thought aloud. "Oh, I did this once in a Mini-Game! Ooooooof! Ouch! Owwwwww! Eeeeeeeeeep!" The Mr. I's kept shooting contact lenses at Yoshi. "Run as fast as you can around the I's! Don't stop for anything!" Lakitu warned. "Wheeeeeeeeeeee!" Yoshi ran full speed around the I's. They began to shrink until...wait, they were there after a half-hour's worth of running!

"Pant...pant...now...pant...what...do...pant...I...do...pant..." Yoshi asked Lakitu, breathing heavily. "Jump up and smash each of them on the top of them." Lakitu said confidently. Yoshi did exactly that. The I's didn't do anything different. "Huh?" Yoshi asked. "Hmmmmm..." Lakitu said thoughtfully. "Aha! I know! I'll shock them! This move never fails!" Yoshi started spinning in a circle. Orange sparks came up from him. He stopped spinning gracefully and sent a shockwave out. It hit the I's, but they only shrunk some more. "Aaaaaaaargh!" Yoshi was very frustrated. "Aha! I know how to shut these guys down!" Lakitu said. "Excuse me, but did you say 'shut down'?" Yoshi asked. "Take a look!" Lakitu insisted.

"Aha! The I's are mechanical!" Yoshi concluded. "And you must go to the Power Room in the Tower to shut all the traps down and free the others." Lakitu added. "And we're off. Come on, Lakitu." Yoshi said.

As Yoshi and Lakitu traversed the tower, Lakitu spotted something. "Go get it, Lakitu!" Yoshi urged. Lakitu brought a pink star down from the top of the Tower. Yoshi put it in his mouth and swallowed. "Why'd you do that?" Lakitu asked. "Don't worry, I can spit it back out." Yoshi

assured. "Yuck-ola!" Lakitu said in disgust. "Live with it. It's what I do." Yoshi was getting annoyed."How much farther is it to the top? I'm going to collapse soon!" Yoshi asked. "A long way. I'll carry you up." Lakitu picked Yoshi up in his rod and went up. On the way they found a bright blue, a yellow, a black, and a green star. "Hey, Lakitu," Yoshi asked when they finally reached the top. "Have you noticed that the colors of the stars we've been finding are the colors of the Yoshis?" "Yes, I have" Lakitu answered.

It was hard to see what to do next. "Look, there's a floating barrel and a small hole in the middle of the floor. You should jump in, Yoshi." Lakitu said. "Ugh, why are you always right, and why will you always be right?" Yoshi sighed as he jumped in the barrel and became smaller.

Yoshi fell into the control room. He became big again and read instructions to stop the traps where they are. He pulled a lever, star logos appeared, and a timer on the wall started for 60 seconds. A barrel appeared near him. He jumped in, and jets appeared on Yoshi's back. He flew through all the logos except one. there was 12 seconds left. Going around once took 20 seconds. Yoshi put on high speed and took as many shortcuts as possible. He finishes with "00:'00:05 seconds left. Yoshi jumped down and watched the door to the power room open. He saw slots labeled: "CAGE OPENINGS" and saw star shaped slots that were color coded. All his stars had those colors. He inserted all the stars and saw on a computer screen that all cages had been opened. He also saw that Bowser had cables hoocked up to him. Yoshi pressed a button labeled: "SYSTEM SHUTDOWN" and saw Bowser stretch in pain as all power was sucked out of him, the cables were disconnected, and Yoshi felt power surge into him. He jumped up, and found he could fly. Yoshi flew into an open window, and found himself face-to-face with Bowser and the other Yoshis. "Can you fly too, Yoshi?" Bright Blue Yoshi asked. "Yup. Now, how about we finish this game with a rainbow beam, everyone? Mario, Peach, Daisy, Waluigi, Wario, D.K., EVERYONE! Lets kick some Bowser butt!!!" Everyone flew up, up, up, and circled around one another until a rainbow formed. They all dived and knocked Bowser into lava. But Bowser's shell floated him to shore before it burned up. Bowser ran off, shell-less, when a beautiful rainbow flash transported them home. But right before that Yoshi noticed a sign that said: "YOSHI CASTLE: WHERE YOSHIS GAIN MYSTERIOUS POWERS FROM THE ELEMENT STARS". "Element stars..." Yoshi wondered as he went home.

Yoshi was at his island, munching on a melon with the other Yoshis. "Why do I keep seeing that tree shine?" Yoshi thought aloud. "I dunno. Go see what's on the top of the tree." Yellow Yoshi said. Yoshi flutter jumped up to the tree, but when he let go, he was floating! "How'd you do that, Yoshi?" Red Yoshi asked. That's when Yoshi saw a star, followed by a rainbow cloud. "What's that?" Yoshi asked. "What's...what? I don't see anything!" Black Yoshi said. "Maybe you were seeing things, Yoshi." Dark Blue Yoshi said. "I know what happened..." Yoshi thought. "The otheres were brainwashed. They don't remember." Yoshi picked up a green star as it glowed in his hand. An aura surrounded Yoshi for a second, then it disappeared. Yoshi felt the essence of power with him. An everlasting power. "I was a true hero this time..." Yoshi thought aloud. "What are you talking about, Yoshi?" Yellow Yoshi asked. "Someday, Yellow, someday, you will experiece an adventure of your own. All of you will. You don't remember it, but I had my own adventure at the Yoshi's Castle. You will go there too, when you are ready, You will become a hero inside" Yoshi beamed with pride as he stared out at a cloud, only visible to him, where Yoshi Castle resided, the rainbow cloud. "Someday, I will return." Yoshi thought.
