About Yoshi

Yoshi is a classic Nintendo character loved by millions. He showed up first as a secondary character in Mario games, and then starred in his own games (Yoshi's Island and Yoshi's Story).

Yoshi is a green dinosaur who lives on Yoshi's Island, a tropical paradise. Actually, there are many yoshis. They all seem to look alike with the exception of color. They come in a variety of colors, including black, white, red, pink, yellow, green, blue, and light blue.

Yoshis love to eat all sorts of things, especially fruit. Different colored ones like different types of fruit. Generally, they like fruits that match their colors (ie. green yoshis like watermelons, yellow yoshis like bananas, blue yoshis like grapes, etc.). White and black yoshis are the only ones who like chili peppers (they give the other yoshis indigestion).

The most famous yoshi is Nintendo's general yoshi, a green yoshi who is named, what else, Yoshi. "Yoshi" can refer to the main dino or any other yoshi. He has often saved friends such as Mario, but they are also very competitive. Yoshi enjoys aggressive go-kart racing, proving he's number one in Mario Party and Mario Party 2, and sometimes even a good fight in Super Smash Bros.

Yoshi's appearance has changed a lot over time. At first he was like a brachiosaurus in classic games, then he was made shorter and rounder in SNES games. In Yoshi's Story, the baby yoshis were made to be incredibly cute. Finally he was made the way he looks in the newest games.

Yoshis are generally kind and good-natured with maybe one exception. (A group of yoshis beat up a pikachu in one of the online smash bros. cards. Maybe they were angry that Pokémon stole all of their fans.) They are extremely energetic and optimistic. They are characteristically brave and make faithful companions. In Yoshi's Story, all the baby yoshis volunteer to be the one who will undergo the quest to recover the Super Happy Tree at the selection screen.

Yoshis are so fun that some people like to think of themselves as them. Who can blame them?
